KUCHING: An education and career expo aimed at helping SPM and STPM graduates, particularly those from rural Sarawak, chart their future education and career pathways will headline the Selangau Indigenous Youth Carnival 2026 on July 25.

Organised by the Sarawak Indigenous Intellectual Association (PERANTIS) in collaboration with the Central Youth Exco of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and ADTEC Bintulu, the carnival will be held at the Selangau Multipurpose Hall from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

PERANTIS’ Chairman, Spancer Biondy, said the initiative is intended to equip school leavers with information on higher education, technical and vocational training, scholarships and career opportunities, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future.

He said choosing a pathway after SPM and STPM is one of the most important decisions students will make, and proper guidance is crucial to ensuring they pursue studies and careers that match their interests and abilities.

“With the right support, we hope more students will continue their education, contributing towards Malaysia’s goal of developing a highly skilled workforce by 2030,” he said in a statement today.

Spancer said students should explore their strengths and interests before deciding on a field of study, noting that academic programmes are only one of several options available.

He said vocational, technical and skills based institutions also provide valuable pathways through a combination of practical and theoretical training that meets industry demands.

“Although choosing a direction after SPM or STPM can be challenging, every pathway offers opportunities for students to build successful careers,” he said.

The education and career expo will bring together universities, technical institutions, government agencies and industry partners to provide information on academic programmes, skills training and education financing.

Spancer said the expo is designed to improve access to educational opportunities, training programmes and financial assistance for youths throughout Sarawak, with a particular focus on recent SPM and STPM graduates from rural communities.

He added that providing students with comprehensive career information at an early stage would enable them to make better long term education and employment decisions.
