KUCHING: Investment holding company, Hartanah Kenyalang Bhd, has secured a RM283.9-million contract, lifting its order book to a record RM800.5 million.
The ACE Market-listed company said its wholly-owned subsidiary, Hartanah Construction Sdn Bhd, accepted the letter of award from the Public Works Department Sarawak on July 9.
The 30-month contract to construct the new Wisma JKR Sarawak complex in Kuching is scheduled to begin on July 23.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, the project is expected to contribute positively to the group’s earnings and net assets for the financial year ending October 31, 2026, and until its completion.
Hartanah Kenyalang’s Non-Independent Executive Director and Managing Director, Seah Boon Tiat, said the award was the company’s largest contract in its 12-year operating history in Sarawak’s construction industry.
“This award represents the largest contract secured by our company in our 12 years of operating history in the construction industry in Sarawak,” he said.
The award has raised Hartanah Kenyalang’s outstanding order book from RM142.5 million as at March 31, 2025, to RM800.5 million as at July 9, 2026, the highest value of ongoing contracts in its operating history.
Since its listing in June 2025, the company has secured a RM42.8-million contract to build an immigration post and quarters in Serikin, Bau, and a RM184.3 million contract to repair and upgrade the Sarawak Stadium.
It also secured a RM275.3-million contract to design and build a new prison in Sibu, followed by the Wisma JKR Sarawak project.
The existing JKR Sarawak Kuching divisional building at Jalan Batu Lintang was built in 1955 and has served as the department’s operational hub for more than 70 years.
It will be demolished to make way for a new complex comprising a 21-storey main tower, a three-storey car park, and other ancillary buildings.
The project will use building information modelling to incorporate sustainable design, efficient systems and environmentally friendly features, with the aim of securing green building certification.
Seah said the complex would be equipped with modern facilities and infrastructure to improve the working environment and welfare of government officers.
He said it would also strengthen JKR Sarawak’s image as a modern and progressive government agency.
“We are honoured by the trust placed in us by the Public Works Department Sarawak to construct Wisma JKR Sarawak, their new landmark green office building in Kuching, Sarawak.
“We will work closely with them in realising their vision and aspirations,” he said.
