MIRI: Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) has strengthened ties with local higher education by hosting Plantation Management students from the i‑CATS for an industrial visit to SOP Academy and Lambir 1 Estate.
The one‑day programme introduced students to SOP’s corporate history and operating model at SOP Academy before moving on to Lambir 1 Estate for practical demonstrations in mature palm blocks and the estate nursery. At the field sessions, students observed estate management routines and sustainable harvesting methods used across SOP’s operations.
The visit gave undergraduates direct exposure to plantation workflows and sustainability protocols, enabling them to connect classroom theory with industry practice.
Estate manager Shridharan said the hands‑on experience was designed to deepen students’ understanding of estate operations and the role of sustainable practices in modern plantation management.
“We are pleased to welcome i‑CATS students and their lecturers to see our operations up close. Early exposure to estate work helps develop the next generation of professionals for the palm oil sector,” he said.
SOP said the programme forms part of its ongoing commitment to industry engagement and skills development, offering students practical insight into contemporary plantation practices and SOP’s approach to environmental stewardship.
