KUCHING: Two local men were hauled in during a narcotics operation after police found them allegedly possessing 5.05g of suspected drugs.
The suspects, aged 31 and 37, were arrested by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) in Stutong on Friday (July 17).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a search uncovered six plastic packets containing suspected methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM555.
“Preliminary urine tests also found both suspects positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
“Background checks found that the 31-year-old suspect has one prior criminal record, while the 37-year-old has no prior record,” he said.
Both suspects have been remanded for three days from July 19 to 21 to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries imprisonment of up to five years and up to nine strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Alexson said the arrests stemmed from continuous intelligence-gathering and information provided by the public.
