DALAT: The Sarawak government is enhancing its people-first approach by taking governance directly to communities to ensure policies, programmes and development initiatives are based on the actual needs of the people.
State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said the “government on the ground” approach demonstrates the state’s commitment to delivering services and development directly to the people, particularly those in rural areas.
“The leadership in Sarawak has chosen to bring the government directly to the people so that every community in the state can benefit from development.
“It is also to ensure that the people can truly feel the presence of the government in every area,” he said when officiating the ‘Kamek Prihatin, Kitak Penting’ Outreach Programme at Dalat Unity Stadium here recently.
Asfia also touched on the proposal to increase the number of seats in DUN, describing it as necessary in view of the state’s vast geographical size, which is significantly larger than that of other states in Malaysia.
“The increase in seats is not intended to serve political interests, but rather to ease the workload of elected representatives and improve the delivery of services to the people,” he stressed.
He added that Sarawak’s harmonious multiracial society and abundant natural resources are among the state’s greatest strengths, and these assets should continue to be preserved and leveraged to drive Sarawak’s future development.
