BAU: Eight local men were rounded up in a pre-dawn narcotics operation yesterday (July 20), with three of them allegedly caught in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

The integrated crime prevention and warrant operation, conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), targeted Kampung Opar, Kampung Blimbin, Kampung Kaman and Kampung Bijuray between 5.30 am and 8.30 am.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the operation resulted in the arrest of eight suspects aged between 24 and 51, comprising six labourers, a stall assistant and an unemployed man.

“Three of the suspects were found in possession of plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 0.49g with an estimated street value of RM50.

“The trio, aged 24, 25 and 38, are being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs,” he said.

Urine screening conducted on all eight suspects returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

As a result, all eight suspects have also been detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.

Initial investigations found that the suspects admitted to abusing methamphetamine between one and four days before their arrests.

Background checks also found that several of the suspects had prior drug-related records, while three were also wanted under outstanding arrest warrants linked to previous drug offences.

All eight suspects are being held at Bau police lock-up for further investigation.

The three suspects arrested for drug possession have been remanded to facilitate investigations, while three others are expected to be charged at Bau Magistrate’s Court over previous drug-related cases.
