KUALA LUMPUR: Petrosains has been recognised for its efforts to make science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education more inclusive after receiving the Company of the Year (Science Centre) – Education, Sustainability & Transformation Award at the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2026.
The national award acknowledges the organisation’s initiatives to widen access to STEM learning for underserved, indigenous and rural communities, while creating opportunities for learners of all backgrounds to engage with science through interactive and community-based programmes.
Presented by Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying, the award also recognises Petrosains’ efforts to support Orang Asli and Peribumi communities, neurodivergent learners, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and children from underserved backgrounds.
Among its key initiatives are the Petrosains Discovery Centre, PlaySmart Satellite Centres in Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, PlayFarm, the Discovery Rover outreach programme, the Tech4All initiative and nationwide community engagements aimed at bringing science closer to Malaysians.
Chief Executive Officer of Petrosains Sdn Bhd, Ezarisma Azni Mohamad, said the recognition reflected the shared commitment of employees, educators, partners, volunteers and communities to ensure science remained accessible to everyone.
“As the social impact arm of PETRONAS, we remain committed to advancing education, sustainability and social impact by empowering communities through STEM learning and creating opportunities for future generations,” he said.
Beyond expanding access to STEM education, Petrosains continues to promote sustainability through initiatives such as the revitalisation of Petrosains PlayFarm in Johor Bahru and enhancements to the Sustainability Gallery at its Discovery Centre, which encourages greater awareness of sustainable living through interactive learning experiences.
The organisation also champions environmental stewardship through programmes including 3E@Schools and Waste to Product, which promotes circular economy practices by repurposing used industrial materials into practical products such as laptop sleeves and pouches.
The recognition underscores Petrosains’ continued efforts to bridge educational gaps through science while fostering a culture of sustainability and inclusivity for future generations.
