SEREMBAN: Police have opened seven investigation papers involving election-related offences during the campaign period so far for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, said Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.
He said two of the investigation papers were opened yesterday involving offences under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in the loss of or damage to property.
“Cumulatively, from July 18 to 22, the Negeri Sembilan contingent of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) received 12 police reports related to election offences,” he said in a statement today.
Alzafny also said 53 permit applications for political ceramahs and campaign activities were received and approved yesterday, bringing the total number of approved permits to 226 so far.
“All political programmes and activities are being monitored by the PDRM to ensure they comply with the law and do not jeopardise public safety and order,” he said.
Alzafny said police would continue to enhance overall preparedness, monitoring and enforcement throughout the campaign period, and stern action would be taken against any breach of the law.
He urged the public to continue complying with the law, respect the democratic process and cooperate with the PDRM to ensure the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election is conducted peacefully, harmoniously and in an orderly manner.
The Election Commission (EC) has set early voting for the Negeri Sembilan state election on July 28, while polling day is on Aug 1.
