LUNDU: Plans to rebuild the Biawak Health Clinic have progressed with a new site identified after construction costs at the original location exceeded the project’s allocated budget.
Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang, said an alternative site at Kampung Jantan had been identified to replace the original location in Kampung Tanjam/Opek after the estimated construction cost rose to about RM54 million, compared with the original allocation of RM15 million.
“The new site is not only more cost effective, but is also strategically located to ensure residents of Biawak and the surrounding areas have better access to healthcare services,” he said during a site visit to the proposed reconstruction project on Thursday (July 23).
The proposed development involves a Type 4 Health Clinic equipped with an Emergency Unit, Maternal and Child Health Clinic, Dental Clinic, Radiology Unit and staff quarters for healthcare personnel.
Billy said providing modern and comprehensive healthcare facilities remained one of the government’s priorities to ensure rural communities received quality, comfortable and efficient healthcare services.
“I hope the site assessment and project planning can be completed as soon as possible so that the reconstruction of the Biawak Health Clinic can be realised in the near future,” he said.
He added that the new clinic would improve the delivery of public healthcare services for residents in the Opar constituency.
