KOTA SAMARAHAN: Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles are expected to begin operational testing in Kota Samarahan as the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project progresses.

The update was shared by Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd during an engagement session with the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), where both parties discussed the latest developments of the public transport project.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), MPKS delegation, led by its chairman, Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, was received by Sarawak Metro’s Chief Executive Officer, Mazli Mustaffa.

“Among the key updates presented were the overall progress of the ART system and construction works on the Rembus Station, one of the stations located within Kota Samarahan.

“The operational trial will assess the performance of the ART system, the effectiveness of its route alignment and its integration with the wider public transport network before services commence,” it said.

During the meeting, MPKS also called for continued efforts to minimise traffic disruptions caused by construction works while ensuring public safety and convenience remained a priority.

UKAS reported that both Sarawak Metro and MPKS reaffirmed their commitment to working closely to facilitate the smooth implementation of the KUTS project in Kota Samarahan.
