KUCHING: A stationery and souvenir storage shop in Batu Kawa was destroyed in a fire this afternoon.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 3:24 pm and dispatched firefighters from the Batu Lintang station, with assistance from the Tabuan Jaya and Padungan stations.
The first fire engine arrived at the scene at 3:35 pm.
“The fire involved a ground-floor storage shop in a three-storey permanent building, which was completely destroyed.
“Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control at 4:05 pm and proceeded with overhaul works to extinguish remaining hotspots,” it said.
It said firefighters carried out an offensive attack from both the front and rear of the premises using two hose lines supplied by fire engines and a nearby fire hydrant to prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the building.
A total of 25 firefighters, assisted by three fire rescue tenders (FRT), two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicles, and two Rapid Intervention Motorcycles (RIM), were involved in the operations.
The operations ended at 5:24 pm and no casualties were reported.
