SIBU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has likened the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Special Convention 2026 to a revision session before an examination, saying the gathering serves as an opportunity for the party to assess its achievements over the past five years and prepare for future challenges.

Abang Johari said the convention was not merely a routine party programme but a platform for members to review past performance, strengthen their understanding of the party’s direction and prepare themselves ahead of the next electoral contest.

“Just as students revise their subjects before sitting for an examination, we too must prepare ourselves. We review what we have done well, refresh what we may have forgotten and ensure we are fully prepared to achieve good results.

“That is exactly what we are doing today. We are looking back at what we have accomplished for Sarawak over the past five years,” he said when speaking at the PBB Central Zone Special Convention held at the Sibu Indoor Stadium today (Jul 26).

Abang Johari said PBB, as the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), had played a leading role in introducing new ideas and approaches that have driven the state’s development, while working closely with its coalition partners.

“Alhamdulillah, PBB is the backbone of GPS. It is PBB that has introduced new ways to develop Sarawak, with the cooperation of our component parties. The ideas were initiated by our leaders in PBB,” he said.

He stressed that the convention also serves as a preparation exercise, where party members must be ready to face questions from the people with clear and convincing answers.

“We must examine ourselves. We have to be prepared for the questions and be ready with the right answers,” he said.

Abang Johari added that the convention also provides an opportunity for the party to reflect on its successes while charting its course towards 2030.

“We prepare by reviewing what we have achieved and looking ahead to what lies before us until 2030. Our framework is already in place,” he said.

He said with a clear development framework and thorough preparation, PBB would be better positioned to continue leading Sarawak’s progress and fulfil its long-term aspirations under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
