SIBU: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members have been reminded to remain united and fair to all, even amidst leadership transitions within the party.
PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg urged party members to avoid division when changes occur in leadership.
He reminded members to keep the spirit of unity alive, regardless of shifts within the party.
“Don’t let PBB be divided if you don’t want to lose power. Leaders come and go, but keep our party’s fire burning in your hearts.
“In PBB, we are fair to everyone. Whoever becomes the leader, regardless of their background, must be fair.
“If a Malay becomes the leader, they must be fair. If an Iban becomes a leader, they must be fair to all,” he said during the PBB Central Zone Convention at the Sibu Indoor Stadium this afternoon (Jul 26).
The Premier further reiterated that the party serves a pluralistic society, rather than focusing on a single religion or race.
“As Muslims, when we serve, we do so with pure intentions. I believe our Christian members share that same intention to serve the people.
“If we are not fair to everyone, God will take away our power and ability to serve because our intentions do not align with universal human values.
“Looking at PBB today, I know we have the absolute best intentions to serve the people well. Based on these intentions and trust, whenever an election comes, we are ready to be tested,” he said.
Abang Johari added that he is often asked when the state election will be held, to which he playfully responds: “Do you know when it is?”
“I tell them we don’t know when, but the exam will surely come,” he reiterated.
“For that, the only thing to do is prepare ourselves and strengthen our party as the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).”
