MIRI: A local man was arrested and 10 illegally modified motorcycles were seized during an integrated crime prevention operation mounted by the Miri district police headquarters (IPD Miri) on Saturday (Jul 25) night.
The operation also saw police issue 37 traffic summonses for a range of offences, including driving without a valid licence, illegal vehicle modifications, the use of non-compliant registration plates, missing side mirrors, modified exhaust systems and expired road tax.
The district-wide operation involved 30 police personnel, comprising seven senior officers and 23 rank-and-file officers, who were deployed for roadblocks, snap checks, mobile patrols and inspections of entertainment outlets across Miri.
Before the operation commenced, Miri District Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division ASP Lee Yen Fang briefed officers at Ruai Kenyalang, IPD Miri, on their respective assignments.
The operation began at 10pm with roadblocks set up at strategic locations throughout the district. Police said enforcement checks uncovered numerous traffic violations, contributing to the number of summonses issued during the exercise.
Ten motorcycles were seized under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for various illegal modifications.
Police also arrested a local man after officers allegedly discovered that the motorcycle he was riding displayed a false registration number.
Meanwhile, officers conducting mobile patrols and spot checkscarried out inspections in residential neighbourhoods, villages and along major roads as part of the force’s omnipresence strategy to deter crime and reassure the public through a visible police presence.
Entertainment outlets were also inspected during the operation.
Miri police said similar integrated operations would continue periodically to curb crime, enhance public safety and strengthen police visibility in areas frequented by the public.
