KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is ready to play a leading role in advancing global waqf innovation by combining traditional Islamic values with modern governance, technology and innovation.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the country has long demonstrated its commitment to strengthening the Islamic economic ecosystem through the development of Islamic finance, halal industries and social economic instruments.
“Malaysia’s experience has shown that Islamic principles can be effectively integrated with modern financial systems, governance frameworks and innovative solutions to create meaningful impact.
“The same approach should guide the future development of waqf,” the Muslim Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (PERKIM) president said today.
Abang Johari was delivering his welcoming address during the International Waqf Da’wah Convention 2026 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), which was graced by Perak Sultan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah.
By combining traditional Islamic values with contemporary management practices, technology and innovation, the full potential of waqf can be unlocked as a strategic instrument for sustainable development.
He added that Malaysia stands ready to contribute to the global effort by sharing its experiences, strengthening partnerships and working together with international partners to advance waqf innovation.
