BAU: Another community-based tourism attraction is planned in Serembu, where the Batu Sepit (BS) Rock Garden in Kampung Batu Sepit is proposed to become BS Jurassic Park.
The initiative gained momentum during a Gotong Royong Perdana involving villagers, who came together to clean and beautify the natural rock garden, highlighting the community’s commitment to preserving and promoting their local heritage.
Serembu assemblyman Datuk Miro Simuh also joined the programme, taking the opportunity to inspect the site and assess its tourism potential.
Describing the rock formations as a remarkable natural creation, Miro said his visit was an initial survey to evaluate the area’s prospects.
“My visit was just an initial survey to see the potential of the rock formation, and I found it very beautiful.
“If it is planned nicely with a good theme, it can be turned into another community-based tourism product in my area,” he said.
He added that the proposed BS Jurassic Park could be considered one of the constituency’s development projects next year, although he intends to revisit the site before making a final decision on funding.
“Maybe it will be listed as one of next year’s projects to be implemented in my constituency. I want to visit it one more time before I decide on the funding,” he said.
Over the years, Miro has championed several community-based tourism projects in Serembu using state government funding under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), with local residents playing a leading role in managing the attractions.
Among the successful initiatives are the Paku Rock Maze Garden, featuring striking natural limestone formations; Paku Hot Spring, a popular thermal spring for relaxation; Tringus Nature Village, which offers visitors authentic rural and cultural experiences; and Merembeh Caving Park, a community-managed eco-adventure destination for cave exploration.
The proposed BS Jurassic Park is expected to further strengthen Serembu’s growing reputation as a destination for nature- and community-based tourism while creating new economic opportunities for local residents.
