KUCHING: The Petra Jaya District Scout Council has pledged to advance youth development and expand opportunities for young people following the proclamation of Dayang Norjihan Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari as its new president.
“One of my immediate priorities is to strengthen the council’s financial capacity by raising more funds to support Scout programmes, camps, community service projects and leadership training,” said Dayang Norjihan, who was proclaimed president during a ceremony at Hotel Dormani on Monday night (Jul 27).
She said leadership training would remain a priority to equip Scouts with practical skills, discipline, resilience and a strong spirit of volunteerism, while working closely with Scout leaders, volunteers, parents and community partners to further develop the movement in Petra Jaya.
Earlier, in a message delivered by deputy president Datuk Mohamad Safri Abdillah, Sarawak Scout Council president Tan Seri Datuk Seri William Mawan Ikom congratulated Dayang Norjihan on her proclamation as president and expressed confidence in her leadership.
“Under the Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) of the Scout Movement, District Scout Councils play a vital role in strengthening Scouting at the district level and must work closely with the District Commissioners’ Council to ensure effective planning and implementation of programmes,” he said.
He cited the Sarawak Scout Eco Run, which attracted more than 1,600 participants this year, as an example of successful collaboration between the Petra Jaya District Scout Council and the District Commissioners’ Council, while urging unity and encouraging district Scout councils across Sarawak to pursue more creative fundraising initiatives to improve their financial sustainability.
The ceremony also saw the appointment of the new Petra Jaya District Scout Council members and the presentation of the Bintang Pengakap Kenyalang, the state’s highest Scout award, to Dayang Norjihan.
