BETONG: The upcoming Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Special Convention for the Betong Zone will serve as a platform to strengthen party unity, streamline organisational efforts and reinforce preparations ahead of the 13th Sarawak Election, said Deputy President Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah said the convention, themed “Jaga Sarawak, Intu Sarawak”, to be held at the Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Complex in Betong on Aug 1, will bring together about 3,000 delegates from 14 PBB branches in the Betong Zone.

Uggah said the convention was more than just a party gathering, describing it as a strategic platform to coordinate the leadership’s efforts, strengthen organisational unity and ensure leaders and grassroots members remain aligned in advancing Sarawak’s development agenda.

“This convention is an opportunity for us to unite our thinking, strengthen our solidarity and renew our commitment to championing the people’s interests while continuing to develop Sarawak. PBB’s strength has always been built on the unity, discipline and loyalty of its members,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

He added that the theme, “Jaga Sarawak, Intu Sarawak”, reflected the party’s commitment to prioritising Sarawak’s interests, safeguarding the state’s rights and continuing its development agenda for the well-being of the people.

Uggah stressed that party unity remained fundamental to ensuring PBB continued to serve as the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), while maintaining public confidence in a leadership that delivers political stability and sustained development.

“When we move as one team and speak with one voice, there is no challenge we cannot overcome. The unity we build today is the strength that will ensure PBB continues to earn the people’s trust to lead Sarawak’s development,” he said.

The convention will also feature briefings on the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to deepen leaders’ and members’ understanding of Sarawak’s development direction and aspirations.

Premier and PBB President Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate the convention and deliver the keynote address to delegates.

Uggah urged all delegates to attend the convention with a strong spirit of commitment to further strengthen the party at every level.

“I hope every delegate comes with the determination to strengthen PBB, empower GPS and continue placing the interests of the people and Sarawak first. Let us move forward as one united and disciplined family for a more progressive, prosperous and harmonious Sarawak,” he said.
