SARATOK: A roof upgrading project at Rumah Panjang Gandik Lui in Sungai Engkabang, Roban, has been completed ahead of schedule, benefiting residents of all 32 doors of the longhouse.
Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) said the project, implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), began on May 26 and was originally scheduled for completion on Nov 6, with a contract period of six months.

“The project involved repairing and upgrading the longhouse roof to ensure it is stronger, safer and more durable.
“The new roofing is expected to reduce the risk of leaks and structural damage while providing a safer, more comfortable and conducive living environment for the residents,” it said in a Facebook post.
The department said the project’s early completion reflected the department’s commitment to delivering development projects efficiently while maintaining quality and complying with the required specifications.
It added that the project also demonstrated the Sarawak government’s continued efforts to strengthen rural development through the provision of quality infrastructure aimed at improving the well-being of local communities.
