SIBU: Growing public demand for practical artificial intelligence (AI) skills has seen all available seats for an upcoming workplace AI training programme here snapped up within just three days, underscoring the increasing urgency among professionals and businesses to embrace digital transformation.
The ‘AI At Work: Using AI The Right Way For Better Results’ programme, scheduled for August 8 at the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) Mall, is jointly organised by the Sarawak Consumer Welfare Association (SCWA), the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), and Yayasan Pengguna Negara Malaysia (YPNM) Sarawak.
The half-day programme is designed to provide participants with practical AI knowledge that can be immediately applied in the workplace.
Ahead of the event, an SCWA delegation led by Secretary-General, Jimmy Ling, paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, who is also the Pelawan assemblyman, at his office on Tuesday (July 28) to brief him on the programme and formally invite him to officiate at the upcoming event.
According to SCWA in a statement, the initiative aims to equip employees, professionals, entrepreneurs and business owners with practical AI competencies as the technology rapidly becomes an integral part of modern workplaces across various industries.
Beyond improving individual productivity, the programme also supports Sarawak’s broader digital transformation agenda and long-term economic development by preparing the local workforce for the evolving demands of the AI era.
The training will be conducted by Dr Winston Chang, a Google AI Professional and HRD Corp Accredited Trainer with nearly 30 years of experience in business, entrepreneurship, organisational development, and professional training.
A Sarawakian from Growing Business Simplified by Mycommax Network Sdn Bhd, he will guide participants through AI fundamentals, responsible AI usage, productivity enhancement techniques, communication tools, and practical workplace applications using real-life examples and hands-on exercises.
Although the programme carries a standard participation fee of RM288 per person, all costs have been fully sponsored by Tiang, enabling participants to attend free of charge.
SCWA noted that the overwhelming response, with all 50 available places fully registered shortly after registration opened, reflects the growing recognition among the public that AI literacy has become an essential workplace skill rather than an optional advantage.
“We expressed our appreciation to Tiang for supporting the initiative and acknowledged the collaboration of SCCCI and YPNM Sarawak in making the programme possible,” it said.
“The association believes empowering businesses, professionals and employees with AI knowledge will strengthen workforce capabilities, encourage better business practices, improve service standards and ultimately enhance consumer welfare across Sarawak.”
