KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Cabinet has agreed to relinquish the Federal Government’s rights over the Rajang Area Security Command (RASCOM) site in Sibu, Sarawak, and hand it over to the Sarawak Government.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) said in a statement today that the area involved four locations in Sibu, namely Nanga Tada, Nanga Jagau, Nanga Ngungun and Nanga Sekuau, with a total area of 3,655.60 hectares.

It said the decision reflected the Federal Government’s continued commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Sarawak Government, in line with the spirit of federalism and recognition of the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Since 2023, the Federal Government has approved the return of 64 lots of Federal Government-owned land in Sarawak.

“This release of rights also opens up space for the Sarawak Government to plan and implement more strategic development in the area, thus optimising land use to generate economic growth and improve the well-being of the state’s people,” it added.

The NRES said the MADANI government remains committed to ensuring that the management of federal assets and land is carried out efficiently, transparently and based on the spirit of cooperation between the federal and state governments for the benefit of the people and the prosperity of the country. – BERNAMA
