KUCHING: Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) and the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening interfaith understanding and cooperation through an engagement session held at the UNIFOR Complex here on Wednesday (July 29).
UNIFOR’s Director, Datuk Georgina Apphia Ngau, said the session served as an important platform to reinforce the longstanding relationship between the two parties through constructive dialogue, the exchange of views, and discussions on matters of mutual interest.
Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) reported that the members of CFM’s executive committee were briefed on UNIFOR’s role in supporting the development of non-Muslim places of worship and mission schools throughout Sarawak during the visit.
“The delegation also toured the UNIFOR Complex to gain a better understanding of Sarawak’s model of interfaith cooperation, which has contributed to maintaining peace, mutual understanding and unity in the state’s multiracial and multi-religious society.
“The visit also provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on strengthening mutual respect, interfaith collaboration, and efforts to preserve the harmony that has become a hallmark of Sarawak,” it said.
The CFM delegation was led by its chairman, Rev. Dr Eu Hong Seng, and comprised representatives from its three member bodies – the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia (CBCM), the Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM), and the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF).
