SIBU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has expressed his appreciation to teachers for their invaluable contribution to the development of Sarawak, describing them as instrumental in shaping the state’s future.
Addressing school principals at the 61st Sarawak Secondary School Principals’ School Management Conference here today, he said the achievements of professionals, including lawyers and doctors, could be traced back to the teachers who had educated and guided them.
“To all our teachers, I want to say that I truly appreciate you and your contribution to Sarawak’s development.
“As the saying goes, a lawyer becomes a famous lawyer because of teachers, while a doctor becomes a good doctor because of teachers. I, too, began my journey with teachers,” he said.
Abang Johari said he had great respect for teachers and recognised the important role they played in shaping the future of Sarawak.
He said the state government wanted to work closely with teachers and parent-teacher associations to transform Sarawak into the most progressive state in the country.
“If Sarawak becomes the most developed state, it will all be owed to our teachers,” he said.
In recognition of the contribution of school principals and teachers, Abang Johari said he had contributed RM150,000 to the Sarawak Secondary School Principals’ Association to enable its principals to attend conferences at the national level.
He said such support reflects the state government’s appreciation of educators and its commitment to strengthening the education sector in Sarawak.
The association’s president, Ujai Sambau, said they would be sending 46 principals to attend the national level conference scheduled for September 12 to 15.
