LIMBANG: The Sarawak Government is strengthening the development of the Kedayan community through infrastructure projects, cultural preservation initiatives, and financial support for community organisations.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (Food Industry), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, said various allocations have been channelled to drive the community’s development, including support for the Kedayan Limbang Makan Tahun Festival 2026.
Speaking at the ‘Malam Ba’iuh Pesta Makan Tahun Kedayan Limbang 2026’ event on Friday (July 31), he said the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) contributed RM50,000 for the festival, while RM25,000 from his Bukit Kota constituency allocation was channelled towards the ‘Malam Ba’iuh’ programme.
Dr Abdul Rahman also announced an additional RM10,000 allocation to support the activities of the Kedayan Association and RM20,000 to undertake an ethnic study documenting the Kedayan community’s identity, history and cultural heritage.
He said the initiative reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to preserving the community’s heritage while ensuring it is passed on to future generations.
On infrastructure development, he revealed that Kampung Nauran received RM250,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to upgrade its drainage system.
A new community hall worth RM570,000 will also be built in the village and equipped with LED facilities to support community activities.
Meanwhile, the Bukit Kota assemblyman said the RM25-million Kedayan Association Building in Limbang has entered the contractor selection stage, which is expected to be finalised by August or September before construction begins.
The project is expected to be completed within two years and will provide a more conducive venue for the association’s activities and programmes, while serving as a hub for the continued development of the Kedayan community in Limbang.
Dr Abdul Rahman added that the combination of infrastructure development, organisational support and cultural preservation demonstrates the Sarawak Government’s holistic approach to empowering the Kedayan community and improving the well-being of its people.
