BINTULU: The Sarawak Government is planning to develop a new township in Samalaju, comprising residential areas and an urban centre, to meet the needs of major companies operating in the area.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the private sector would play a key role in developing housing to accommodate the growing workforce in Samalaju.
“Bintulu, particularly Samalaju, will be expanded through the development of a new township that we are currently planning.
“We hope this initiative will bring about more orderly and well-planned development for the rapidly growing town of Bintulu,” he said at the launching ceremony of Anjung Kasih at Bintulu Hospital here today.
Meanwhile, Abang Johari said that the Sarawak Government is also considering the construction of an international school in Bintulu.
“Such a facility is needed in view of the increasing number of investors establishing companies in Bintulu,” he said.
He added that as investment in the area continues to grow, the development of a new township and the provision of an international school are essential to meet the needs of the expanding local population.
