Elderly resident found unresponsive in locked home

Firefighters from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station assess the situation outside a house in Lorong Desa Senadin, Miri, before forcing entry during an emergency response involving an elderly resident who was found unresponsive.

MIRI: An elderly resident was found unresponsive inside a locked house in Senadin after firefighters forced entry during an emergency call on Monday evening.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 6.10pm reporting that an occupant, believed to be in their 80s, was locked inside a house at Lorong Desa Senadin 2A-4 and could not be contacted.

A team from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched immediately, arriving at the scene at 6.21pm.

Following an initial assessment, firefighters used a power saw to cut through the padlock and gain access to the property.

The victim was later found inside a bathroom but was unresponsive.

Medical personnel from the Ministry of Health assessed the victim before the case was handed over to the police for further investigation.

The operation concluded at 7.24pm after firefighters ensured the scene was safe before returning to the station.

The response involved six firefighters with one fire engine, while police officers and Ministry of Health personnel also attended the scene.

The cause of the incident and the victim’s condition have not been officially disclosed at press time.
