GKCDA water projects benefit Bukit Semuja

SERIAN: Five completed water supply projects worth about RM2.3 million under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) have significantly improved access to clean and safe water for residents in Bukit Semuja.
 
Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus said the projects reflected the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring rural communities enjoy reliable basic infrastructure and a better quality of life.
 
The completed projects comprise the extension of a 160mm HDPE water pipeline along Jalan Tebakang costing RM526,375, a similar pipeline extension in Kampung Koran valued at RM836,300, replacement of ageing asbestos cement (AC) pipes with 160mm HDPE pipes and pipeline extension to new areas in Triboh costing RM689,710, extension of a 160mm HDPE pipeline to new areas in Kampung Sorak Sumpung worth RM182,659, and extension of a water pipeline to new areas in Kampung Belimbing A costing RM163,250.
 
John said the projects were undertaken to improve water distribution, replace ageing pipelines, and extend treated water supply to settlements that previously had limited or no access to piped water.
 
“The projects will provide residents with clean and safe drinking water, improve public health, and create new opportunities for local economic growth,” he said.
 
He added that a reliable water supply would help reduce the risk of water-borne diseases, eliminate the burden of transporting water over long distances, and support household activities as well as small-scale farming.
 
The projects were implemented under GKCDA, one of the Sarawak government’s regional development agencies established to accelerate balanced development in the Greater Kuching region.
 
Covering Kuching, Samarahan and Seriandivisions, GKCDA coordinates infrastructure and socio-economic development across its jurisdiction while ensuring that development reaches both urban and rural communities.
Each state constituency under the agency receives dedicated development allocations of about RM150 million to implement priority projects based on local needs, including roads, drainage, public facilities, water supply and other essential infrastructure.
 
The completion of the five projects marks another step towards improving rural connectivity and ensuring communities in Bukit Semuja enjoy the benefits of modern infrastructure and sustainable development.
