KAPIT: A new road linking Nanga Belawai, SK Nanga Terusa and Rumah Jabang in Ulu Belawai is set to improve connectivity and accelerate rural development in the area.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the road would ease residents’ daily movement while improving access to basic amenities and economic opportunities.
“The opening of the new road will facilitate residents’ movement, improve access to basic amenities and support economic growth in the Ulu Belawai area,” he said.
He said this at the opening ceremony for the Sungai Ulu Belawai Bridge and Rumah Madau, Sekerangan Tengah, on Friday (Aug 7).
Nanta, the Kapit MP also announced several development projects, including the RM200,000 construction of a new Sungai Yong Bridge, as well as awning and tiling works at longhouses.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law and Native Customs) and Bukit Goram assemblyman, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat said the new road would serve as a catalyst for greater mobility and rural development.
He also handed over RM10,000 in Rural Transformation Project (MRP) funding to the Rumah Madau Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), RM5,000 to its Women’s Bureau, and RM5,000 each to 16 longhouses present at the event.
