Weeks after cutting a concert short for medical reasons, 64-year-old ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ singer Jon Bon Jovi was back on stage, with a source saying that he sees the temporary setback as a “wake-up call”.
“It’s a big deal for him to cancel a performance due to health issues,” the source said. “Jon wants to keep performing until he’s 90, but working himself to the bone is finally catching up with him. He sees this as a warning that he has to change his approach if he’s going to keep playing live music in front of paying fans.”
On July 23, the ‘Bad Medicine’ singer cut short Bon Jovi’s concert at Madison Square Garden, telling the New York crowd that he was suffering from a sinus infection and had to “cool it for the rest of the night”, according to Page Six.
“I’m hurt,” he said, according to the outlet. “You’re not getting the best of me.”
The surprise admission came during the eighth night of the band’s nine-show residency at the famed New York venue.
“Jon’s health isn’t what it used to be,” the source said. “He is coming to grips with the fact that he’s an old man.”
The rocker, who is performing live for the first time since undergoing vocal cord surgery in 2022, brought his old friend Bruce Springsteen on stage to help him wrap up Bon Jovi’s Madison Square Garden residency on July 26, People reported.
According to Examiner’s source, the 76-year-old ‘Born to Run’ musician is a “North Star” for Bon Jovi as he navigates getting older in the entertainment industry.
“Bruce knew he needed to pull back from the giant arenas for a beat in 2017,” the source recalled. “His intimate Springsteen on Broadway show was the break Bruce needed from the enormous crowds and demanding touring schedule.
“If Jon’s health gives him any more challenges, he can and will follow in his idol’s footsteps.”
