KUCHING: The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) has reviewed the progress of four biodiversity conservation projects in Sarawak funded under the National Conservation Trust Fund for Natural Resources (NCTF).
A delegation led by NRES deputy secretary general (Natural Resources) Datuk Khalid Mohamed conducted a working visit to Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) at Wisma Lestari here on Tuesday (Aug 11).
The visit included a meeting and presentation on the current progress of the four projects being implemented with funding from the NCTF.
The projects cover research and conservation efforts involving amphibians, vascular plants, the white-rumped shama and marine mammals in Sarawak.
They comprise the Assessing Correlation of Environment on Amphibian’s Diversity Pattern in Sarawak TPAs, Checklist of Vascular Plants of Santubong and Sampadi National Park, Non-Detriment Finding for White-rumped Shama in Sarawak, and Sarawak Marine Mammals Conservation projects.
The visit provided an opportunity for NRES and SFC to review developments involving the respective projects and strengthen cooperation in biodiversity conservation.
SFC expressed its appreciation to Khalid and the NRES delegation for the visit as well as their continued support and input towards conservation efforts.
It said the strategic synergy established between the parties was expected to further strengthen efforts to conserve biodiversity and safeguard the country’s natural heritage through the NCTF.
The four projects reflect conservation efforts across different components of Sarawak’s biodiversity, ranging from terrestrial flora and wildlife to marine mammals.
The visit also highlighted continued collaboration between the federal ministry and SFC in supporting conservation initiatives and research involving Sarawak’s natural resources.
