KUCHING: Two outdoor events organised by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and scheduled for this weekend have been postponed as haze continues to affect the city.
In a post on its official Facebook page, DBKU said the ‘Musical @ Museum Ground’, which was scheduled to take place at Tugu Pahlawan on Saturday (Aug. 15), and Kuching Car Free Morning 2026 at Padang Merdeka on Sunday (Aug. 16) would not proceed as planned.
The decision was made after taking into consideration the ongoing haze situation in Kuching, with the Air Pollutant Index (API) remaining in the unhealthy category.
DBKU said postponing the two programmes was a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding the health, safety and well-being of the public.
Both events involve outdoor activities and public participation in open areas, which could expose participants to the prevailing poor air quality.
In view of the situation, DBKU advised Kuching residents to take precautions and limit unnecessary outdoor activities while the haze persists.
Members of the public were also urged to remain alert to updates on the haze situation and follow the advice, guidelines and instructions issued by the relevant authorities and agencies from time to time.
DBKU apologised for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and thanked the public for their cooperation and understanding.
