KUCHING: Lodge International School’s Korean Day raised RM3,000 for Hope Place Kuching, combining cultural celebration, student activities and community fundraising.
The annual event was organised by the Primary Korean ICF and Secondary Korean Club CCA, giving students an opportunity to experience Korean culture.
Students enjoyed Korean delicacies including various kimchi, tteokbokki, cupbap and hwachae at food booths, while Korean families contributed precious family recipes.
“We wish to promote Korean culture among Kuchingites and foster teamwork among students, besides supporting the local community,” said the head teacher of the Korean Club Esther Jung.
Students also operated stalls selling second-hand items to raise funds, while artistic students offered face painting as another activity for visitors.
The organisers said Korean Day’s fundraising reflected its wider purpose of giving back to the community and supporting underserved families across Kuching.
Hope Place Kuching was selected as the beneficiary, receiving the RM3,000 contribution raised through the students’ fundraising activities during the annual event.
Lodge International School principal Markus Gatuman handed over the cash donation to Yong Tiong Yieng, operations manager of Hope Place, during a presentation at school.
The presentation was witnessed by teachers and students from the Korean Club, marking the culmination of their fundraising efforts through Korean Day.
Yong also shared about Hope Place and its role in supporting underserved communities, while encouraging students to participate actively in local community work.
The engagement gave students an opportunity to understand how charitable organisations assist families facing difficulties and why community involvement remains important.
Korean Day served as a cultural learning platform as well as a fundraising initiative, connecting students, Korean families, teachers and the wider Kuching community.
