SARIKEI: The Sarikei Zone AgriCommodity MADANI Carnival will provide a platform for the local community to discover the potential of the agri-commodity sector and the economic opportunities it offers.
Organised by the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK), the carnival will be held at Dewan Sentral Sarikei on Saturday (Aug. 14) from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Plantation and Commodities Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, is scheduled to officiate at the event, while Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, is also expected to attend.
Carrying the theme ‘Empowering Commodities, Strengthening the Nation’s Agri-Commodity Sector’, the carnival will showcase various products, activities and initiatives related to the sector.
Among the highlights is a used cooking oil collection programme, where members of the public can sell their used cooking oil at RM3 per kilogramme.
The programme will be held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the car park of Dewan Sentral Sarikei, with 40 free containers also available for early participants to encourage the collection and recycling of used cooking oil.
The initiative is aimed at giving economic value to used cooking oil while helping to reduce environmental pollution and encouraging responsible recycling practices among the community.
Visitors will also be able to explore exhibitions featuring agri-commodity products and take part in a chocolate-making demonstration.
The carnival will feature community games and lucky draws, with activities such as coconut bowling, Penalty Cup and Lucky Rings open to the public.
Residents of Sarikei and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend the carnival to learn more about the agri-commodity sector, explore potential economic opportunities and participate in the activities lined up throughout the day.
