KUCHING: The temporary closure of schools affected by the haze in Serian district has been extended until tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 14).
The Sarawak Education Department (JPNS) said the decision followed an engagement session with principals and headmasters of secondary and primary schools under the Serian District Education Office (PPD).
It said the extension was intended to avoid burdening school administrators, teachers, parents and students, particularly those from boarding schools.
“Any changes or latest information on the situation would be communicated from time to time.
“Schools were also reminded to comply with the prescribed standard operating procedures and prioritise the health and safety of students and teachers during the haze,” the department said in a statement.
Meanwhile, all educational institutions under JPNS were advised to follow the Education Ministry’s guidelines on outdoor activities during hot weather.
They were also urged to monitor the Air Pollutant Index (API) in their respective areas through the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
JPNS said institutions should also comply with recommendations issued by the Health Ministry to safeguard the health of students and education personnel.
