SIBU: Bawang Assan assemblyman, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, will lead his team in an extensive grassroots outreach programme covering all 105 longhouses in the constituency as preparations gather momentum for the upcoming Sarawak polls.
The initiative was agreed upon during a meeting of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan branch’s Indigenous Committee on Wednesday (Aug. 12), attended by numerous Indigenous community leaders who discussed preparations and coordination for the coming state polls.
Under the agreed plan, the Bawang Assan team will visit every longhouse in the constituency before the next sitting of the State Legislative Assembly.
The extensive ground engagement is intended to provide a direct channel for residents to raise their concerns, highlight pressing issues and convey the latest needs of their communities to the elected representative and party leadership.
Wong, who is also PDP’s senior vice-president, said the visits would go beyond election preparations, stressing that maintaining close contact with the grassroots remained an important part of the team’s approach to serving the constituency.
“We have always believed that effective service begins with listening to the people at the grassroots. These visits will allow us to hear directly from residents and better understand the issues they face,” he added.
Meanwhile, he said the branch will also intensify its engagement with the Chinese community through a series of small-scale dialogue sessions to be held at various locations across the constituency.
The sessions will provide opportunities for face-to-face discussions on community development, local concerns and issues affecting livelihoods.
Wong said the combined outreach efforts involving both the Indigenous and Chinese communities reflected the branch’s commitment to maintaining close ties with residents across all communities in Bawang Assan.
He added that the grassroots engagements would also enable the team to better identify priorities and respond more effectively to the needs of the constituency as it prepares for the state election.
