BELAGA: The Yayasan Sarawak FTES 2026 Education Expo is helping SPM and STPM school leavers make informed choices on their higher education and career pathways, particularly in line with Sarawak’s development needs.
Deputy Minister for Utilities and Telecommunications (Telecommunications) and Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang said education was a crucial agenda in shaping the future of the younger generation, especially those in rural areas.
“Education is a very important agenda for the future of our children and our district because education is an agent of change in life that can transform not only the future of individuals, but also the community and local areas,” he said.
He said this when officiating at the Yayasan Sarawak FTES 2026 Education Expo at the Belaga Community Hall here on Saturday.
Liwan said education was not only the foundation for building careers and achieving a better quality of life, but also an agent of change capable of bringing positive impacts to individuals, communities and local areas.
He said the expo was timely in helping students who had completed their SPM and STPM obtain relevant information before deciding on their fields of study and future careers.
“Students are at an important crossroads in life and need to determine the profession and course that are suitable for them because the choices they make will influence their future,” he said.
Meanwhile, Liwan said the Sarawak government continued to expand access to education through various initiatives, including the implementation of the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) at selected higher education institutions in Sarawak.
He said courses offered under the initiative also took into account the state’s development needs to ensure graduates could contribute to workforce requirements and the state’s economic growth.
He therefore encouraged students and parents to make full use of the expo to obtain information on study opportunities, scholarships, financing and available education pathways before making their decisions.
The Yayasan Sarawak FTES 2026 Education Expo, held on Aug 14 and 15, brought together various education agencies to provide students and parents with information on higher education opportunities, scholarships, financing and career pathways.
