KUCHING: Sarawak Media Group (SMG), the parent company of TVS, received regional recognition after being named Runner-Up in the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Intellectual Property & Legal Committee (IPLC) Awards, held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The recognition was presented during the 32nd ABU IPLC Conference and Meeting, organised by Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) at its headquarters from July 22 to 23.
The award recognises outstanding initiatives by ABU member organisations in promoting respect for intellectual property through practical and innovative practices.
Representing SMG, Assistant Manager of Legal, Regulatory and Secretarial Affairs, Charies Wee Lee Ping, received the Certificate of Recognition from Chairman of the ABU Intellectual Property and Legal Committee, Haruyuki Ichinohashi.
The recognition was awarded for SMG’s submission titled “Planning and Implementation of a Digital Legal System and Administration of Copyrights”, which highlighted the organisation’s approach to strengthening intellectual property governance through the implementation of an effective digital legal management and copyright administration system.
TVS Chief Executive Officer Kushairi Abang said the recognition marked a significant achievement for TVS and SMG in their efforts to strengthen their position in the regional broadcasting industry.
“This recognition affirms our commitment to strengthening intellectual property standards as TVS continues to grow as a broadcaster with regional relevance,” he said in a statement.
In addition to receiving the award, SMG also played an active role in the conference, with Charies serving as moderator for a panel session titled “Copyright Enforcement, Platform Responsibility and Fair Remuneration.”
Themed “AI, Copyright & Royalties in the Digital Content Economy,” the conference brought together broadcasting professionals and intellectual property practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss emerging legal and regulatory challenges in the era of digital content and artificial intelligence (AI).
The recognition further reinforces SMG’s commitment to maintaining international standards in intellectual property management while enhancing TVS’ role in regional discussions on the future of broadcasting, digital content and copyright governance.
