KUCHING: DAP must turn its decision to remain in the federal government into action, not rhetoric, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
He said the party’s 88.2 per cent vote to remain in the government for the remainder of the parliamentary term was an internal decision, but its continued participation in Putrajaya should now be matched by concrete results.
Yap said DAP had long positioned itself as a champion of institutional reforms, transparency and fiscal prudence, but questioned the pace of structural reforms despite the party holding federal Cabinet portfolios.
“With the mandate secured, DAP must stop acting like an opposition party when it is politically convenient and leverage its administrative weight to execute the institutional, financial and anti-corruption updates it promised,” he said in a statement today.
On Sarawak’s rights, Yap urged Sarawak DAP MPs to use their position within the federal government to push for the full restoration of the state’s rightful status under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
He also criticised Sarawak DAP leaders for what he described as double standards in their approach to checks and balances, accusing them of opposing or scrutinising Sarawak government initiatives while attributing systemic shortcomings to the state.
Yap said accountability should also extend to the federal government, including political appointments, policy gaps and other shortcomings within the federal machinery.
He said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak coalition remained focused on structural transformation, infrastructure development and long-term economic stability.
“Voters are tired of endless press conference drama and social media posturing. If DAP intends to stay in the driver’s seat federally, it must start delivering tangible results,” he said.
Yap added that the public would ultimately judge political leadership based on action and accountability rather than statements or political posturing.
