KUCHING: Air quality worsened overnight in several parts of Sarawak, with Serian and Lubok Antu recording the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings of 185 as of 8am today (Aug 20).
The readings in Serian and Lubok Antu had risen from 165 and 166 respectively at 4pm yesterday.
According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), Kuching also saw its API rise from 160 to 180, while Samarahan increased from 135 to 163.
Sri Aman recorded an API of 173 this morning, up from 161 yesterday afternoon, while Lundu edged up from 173 to 175.
Sarikei saw a notable deterioration, with its API rising from a moderate 98 yesterday afternoon to an unhealthy 153 this morning.
Tebedu also recorded an increase from 112 to 158.
Meanwhile, Sibu improved slightly from 129 to 117, while Mukah dropped from 154 to 91 and Bintulu from 130 to 98, bringing both areas back to moderate levels.
Air quality remained moderate in Samalaju (96), Miri (91), ILP Miri (90), Lawas (71), Kapit (68) and Limbang (66).
Bario recorded the best air quality at 33, improving from 61 yesterday afternoon and moving into the good category.
