KUCHING: The Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the position and interests of Sabah and Sarawak in the Federation of Malaysia were among matters discussed during a meeting between Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
The meeting, held at the Head of State’s official residence here today, also provided an opportunity for both figures to share experiences and exchange views on matters concerning the two Borneo states.
Salleh, who is Chief Inspector of Projects Sabah, expressed appreciation for Wan Junaidi’s contributions while serving as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), particularly his role in the planning, drafting and tabling of the Federal Constitution amendments related to MA63, which were passed in 2021.
He said the amendments marked an important achievement in strengthening the position and interests of Sabah and Sarawak, in line with the spirit and basis of the formation of the Federation of Malaysia.
The appreciation also reflected recognition of efforts to ensure matters related to MA63 received due attention within the Federal Constitution.
Wan Junaidi, meanwhile, expressed appreciation for the visit and the exchange of views and experiences during the meeting.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of continuing to understand the history, position and aspirations of Sabah and Sarawak within the Federation of Malaysia.
Wan Junaidi also wished Salleh good health and ease in carrying out his responsibilities.
