Man dies after falling into Bau river

BAU: A 29-year-old man died after falling into a river while fishing with several companions at Sungai Taman Limbang here late Thursday night.

The deceased, identified as Nailson Phillip, was pronounced dead at Bau Hospital at about 12.23 am early this morning.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the incident occurred at about 11.30 pm yesterday when Nailson was fishing with several of his friends.

“Nailson suddenly fell face-first into the river and was believed to have lost consciousness.

“His friend immediately pulled him out of the water before taking him, together with the other friends, to Bau Hospital in a car,” he said in a statement.

Nailson was given emergency treatment upon arrival at the hospital but was later pronounced dead by a medical officer.

“Initial examination by police at the hospital found no suspicious injuries or “indications of criminal elements on the deceased.

“The case is being investigated as a sudden death. Police have recorded statements from the complainant and witnesses while a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” he said.
