KUCHING: A 35-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here today for threatening to kill a woman during a quarrel over her use of the bathroom.
Rahmat Sajana Husain pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal intimidation before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.
Rahmat was charged under the second limb of Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
The court imposed the 12-month jail term from today, Aug 24.
According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred at about 9.15 pm on Aug 20 at a house in Kampung Pulo Hilir, Petrajaya.
The court heard that the accused, who is the complainant’s younger brother, became angry with the complainant’s daughter for allegedly taking too long to use the bathroom.
He then threatened to kill her, causing the victim to feel frightened and anxious.
The accused was reported to have uttered the threat, “mati ku bunuh malam tok” (I’ll kill you tonight).
Following the report, police arrested the accused at about 12.15 am on Aug 21.
Rahmat was unrepresented, while the prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Marvin Kaliyani.
