LUNDU: Firefighters have brought a five-day forest firefighting operation at the Samunsam Forest Reserve to a successful end after extinguishing the remaining 0.1 hectare of the two-hectare blaze today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the fire was first detected on Aug 20, with drone monitoring by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) estimating the affected area at about two hectares.
Firefighters from Lundu station were deployed to the site today to put out the remaining 0.1 hectare of the fire.
The operation ended at 4.09 pm, with the entire two-hectare affected area extinguished.
Throughout the operation, the team faced several challenges, including a roughly 1km trek from the main road to the affected area, the absence of a nearby water source and hilly terrain.
Also assisting in the operation were the SFC, the Department of Environment (DOE) and Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB).
The successful operation brought the five-day firefighting effort to a close, with the entire affected area now fully extinguished.
