KUCHING: A six-time offender was back in police custody after he was caught with 5.3g of suspected methamphetamine on Monday (Aug 24).
The 32-year-old local man was arrested during a narcotics operation by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at about noon at Taman Eastern Park here.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said inspections led to the finding of four plastic packets containing 5.3g of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of RM500.
“He was also found to have tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine in an initial urine screening.
“Background checks found that the suspect had six prior criminal records,” he said.
He said the suspect has been remanded for four days until Aug 29 to facilitate further investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted, it carries a jail term of up to five years and a maximum of nine strokes of the cane.
Alexson said the arrest was the result of continued intelligence-gathering efforts and cooperation from members of the public.
“Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug trafficking as possessing, distributing or protecting drug activities is a serious offence under the law,” he said.
