BAU: Five people, including a woman, were arrested after testing positive for two types of drugs in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ yesterday (Aug 25).
The operation also led to the seizure of 5.9g of suspected syabu worth an estimated RM590, with one of the suspects allegedly found in possession of the drugs.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the suspects were arrested between 10am and 11.50am around Kampung Serasot and Jalan Kampung Sriieng.
He added that the suspects, including a woman, aged between 26 and 47. Three of them are labourers, while two are unemployed.
“One of them, a 47-year-old male labourer, was allegedly found with a plastic packet containing a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.
“He was detained under Section 39A(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for alleged possession of the suspected methamphetamine,” he said.
Preliminary urine screenings later showed that all five suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. They were subsequently arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
Background checks also found that two of the suspects had previous records under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the other three had no previous records.
“During preliminary questioning, all five reportedly admitted to consuming syabu a day before their arrests.
“The suspects are currently being held at the Bau police station lock-up,” he said.
Mohd Haide said the 47-year-old suspect is expected to be brought before the Magistrate’s Court for a remand application, while the 26-year-old woman is expected to face a tentative charge linked to a previous case.
