MUKAH: Three local men were arrested after police found suspected methamphetamine on one of them and detected traces of drugs in all three on Tuesday.
The trio were arrested by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at around 5 pm during a special operation at a plantation along Jalan Mukah-Balingian.
Acting on information received, police raided an area outside a plantation company’s guardhouse and detained the three men on suspicion of drug-related activities.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a 57-year-old unemployed man was found behind the guardhouse with a straw tube containing crystalline chunks believed to be methamphetamine.
“The suspected drugs weighed about 0.45g. His urine test also came back positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“The suspect, who has five prior drug-related offences, was remanded for two days until Aug 28 to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Meanwhile, the other two suspects were not found with drugs, but both tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The 28-year-old shop assistant, who has one prior drug-related offence, was arrested in front of the guardhouse and is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He was released on police bail pending his court date.
Rizal said the third suspect, a 37-year-old security guard with two prior drug-related offences, was also arrested in front of the guardhouse.
He was released on police bail pending prosecution and is likewise being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
