KUCHING: Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol visited the home of a local newspaper photographer at Kampung Tabuan Dayak here on Wednesday (Aug 26) after it was damaged during a storm.
The home of photographer Chimon Upon was damaged after roofing sheets from a nearby apartment block were torn off by strong winds and landed on part of his house.
The incident occurred at about 3pm on Tuesday (Aug 25), during heavy rain and strong winds.
The impact damaged part of the roof, allowing rainwater to enter the house.
Chimon said his mother-in-law and child were inside the house when the incident occurred, but neither was injured.
During the visit, Abdullah inspected the damage and presented Chimon with a contribution from the UKAS Club to help ease the burden following the incident.
The contribution was also made as a gesture of concern for the welfare of media practitioners affected by the storm.
Also present were UKAS director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, deputy director Joachim Paggang Jabong, as well as assistant directors Peter Sibon and Muller Asen.
