KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi made an official visit to the Sarawak Science Centre (SSCiEX) in Petra Jaya here on Wednesday.
The couple arrived at 2.30 pm and were welcomed by Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn and his wife Datin Seri Kelly Rebid.
During the hour-long visit, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah toured the centre’s facilities and experienced some of the interactive exhibits available to visitors.
They also took the opportunity to interact with members of the public visiting the centre.
The Sarawak Science Centre, also known as the Sarawak Science Centre Interactive Experience, is Sarawak’s first large-scale interactive science centre.
It was developed to foster greater public interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through interactive and experiential learning.
The first phase, comprising the Ground Floor and Level 1, is currently open to the public and features several interactive zones.
Among the attractions are an animatronic dinosaur gallery, physics and earth science exhibits, water-based activities and a mirror maze.
Once fully completed, SSCiEX is planned to house 22 themed galleries featuring more than 400 interactive exhibits.
The centre is envisaged as an important facility in strengthening STEM education in Sarawak in line with the aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
Also present were Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development permanent secretary Datuk Adana Jed, SSCiEX managing director Dr Peter Morin Nissom, members of the SSCiEX board and heads of department.
