BAU: The Malaysian Information Department (JAPEN) is strengthening direct engagement with youths here, using face to face programmes to communicate government policies while gathering feedback on issues affecting the community.
JAPEN continued the effort through its Jalinan Insan Wahana Aspirasi (JIWA)@Komuniti programme, held in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebrations at Kolej Komuniti Mas Gading (KKMG).
Organised by JAPEN Bau District, the programme also promoted patriotism and supported the One House One Jalur Gemilang (1R1JG) initiative.
JAPEN Sarawak Community Communication Services and Community Development Division (BPKPM) assistant director Hairol Hisham Hamdan officiated the programme, which was also attended by KKMG Director Esstree Ishak, Deputy Director of Management Munirah Yahya and Bau District Information Officer Loseyeffer Molly.
Hairol said JIWA@Komuniti served as a strategic communication platform to strengthen the delivery of government policies, initiatives and agendas through a targeted, community oriented and face to face approach.
“The JIWA@Komuniti programme held in conjunction with HKHM is also one of the efforts to support the One House One Jalur Gemilang or 1R1JG initiative, while fostering the spirit of patriotism during the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations among the community,” he said in his speech yesterday (Aug 27).
He said flying the Jalur Gemilang was more than a symbol of celebration, carrying messages of love, pride and loyalty towards the country.
Hairol called on KKMG staff and students to support the 1R1JG initiative by flying the Jalur Gemilang, stressing that fostering patriotism was a shared responsibility among Malaysians.
He added that JIWA@Komuniti was not merely a platform to promote patriotism, but also provided an avenue for the government to hear community views and obtain direct feedback.
Meanwhile, Loseyeffer said engagement between the government and young people should be built through a more relaxed, open and friendly approach.
She said the Sembang Santai programme held a day before the event gave students an opportunity to interact, raise questions and share their views on matters concerning the government, society and current issues.
The JIWA@Komuniti programme was also enlivened by activities incorporating patriotic and nation building elements, including the singing of Negaraku, recitation of the Rukun Negara pledge, and a symbolic handover and raising of the Jalur Gemilang.
