KUCHING: TVS strengthened its creative credentials after winning a silver award for Best Chinese Song at the VIMA Music Awards 2026.
The award was presented for its festive production, “Echoes of Prosperity,” recognising the broadcaster’s efforts to celebrate Malaysia’s cultural diversity through original music.
Featuring Raquel Then and Morris Chai for TVS Entertainment, the song was composed by Galvin Patrick and produced for the Chinese New Year festive season last year.
Raquel said the recognition was meaningful as the song reflected the joy, warmth and togetherness associated with Chinese New Year celebrations.
“We are honoured that ‘Echoes of Prosperity’ has been recognised at the VIMA Music Awards. The song celebrates togetherness, family and the rich traditions that make Chinese New Year special,” she said.
She said this during the press conference on TVS VIMA Music Awards 2026 achievements at Sarawak Media Group (Townhall) Level 1, CityOne here on Friday.
Morris said the award demonstrated how locally produced music could connect audiences while showcasing Malaysian talent and creativity on a wider platform.
“This recognition is a proud moment for everyone involved in the production. It shows that our local creative talents can produce meaningful music that resonates beyond Sarawak,” he said.
The Silver Award also highlights TVS’ commitment to producing festive content that promotes cultural appreciation while giving local musicians opportunities to reach broader audiences.
TVS’ success at the awards extended further, with the broadcaster receiving Top Five recognition in the Best Ethnic Song category for “Nostalgia Raya.”
Featuring Alia Tenor and Bob Yusuf, the Hari Raya production was also composed by Galvin Patrick and released in conjunction with the festive season last year.
The song captures the warmth and nostalgia of Hari Raya, highlighting memories of returning home, family gatherings and cherished traditions shared by loved ones.
Head of Creative Content Jamal Abdullah said the double recognition reflected TVS’ continuous efforts to use music and creative storytelling to celebrate Malaysia’s multicultural identity.
“These achievements encourage us to continue producing original content that reflects our diverse communities, traditions and festive celebrations while providing a platform for local talents,” he said.
He added that festive music could serve a greater purpose beyond entertainment by preserving cultural traditions and creating shared experiences across generations.
The recognition for both productions underscores TVS’ growing contribution to Malaysia’s creative industry through original festive music that celebrates the country’s diverse cultural landscape.
“Echoes of Prosperity” particularly demonstrates how music can bring communities together while highlighting the vibrancy, values and traditions associated with Chinese New Year celebrations.
The VIMA recognition also provides further exposure for Sarawakian and Malaysian creative talents, reinforcing the potential of locally produced content to gain attention on international platforms.
